Yesterday and today, being weekends and the start of the 4th of July vacation week brought out all the crazies. I've seen more skiers, surfboarders, boogie boarders, jet skies and speedboats the last two days than I've seen in the last 10 years. They were everywhere as we passed by Wrightsville Beach, Topsail Beach and Surf City. This is an attractive area with lots of white, sandy beaches, few trees and sand dunes topped with sea oats. The water is green and clear. I can see why there are so many people. Stopped at mil 266, Harbour Village Marina. At first glance this looks like a nice place, but the transient docks are a mile (or it seems) walk from the office, laundry and showers. We had a bit of a time getting docked. No help from the staff and the wind blowing us off the dock. We eventually got it in but it was a chore. The marina has a car (pickup with no A/C) for running back an forth in the marina and for use to run to the store (7 miles away) after 1900. It was always on the wrong end for us. We had to walk back and forth. I don't recommend this marina. Very poor layout. Half of the 50 amp service didn't work. The TV cable connection was a mail type F connector. I had to scrounge up an adaptor to make it work. NOT a recommended marina. Pass this one up.
