Another warm day on the ICW. We anchored off Cape Lookout National Seashore. This is a very nice spot if the winds are from the right direction. It could be bad if they aren't. Very pretty beach and island. We awoke to find the wild horses of the island parading down the beach. There were 3 foals among the group. Or at least not quite full grown. I was sitting in the cockpit just looking at nothing and noticed a boat anchored off the island a ways down that seem to be having trouble. A couple of boats had cruised by him so I figured if he wanted help, he'd have flagged one of them down. It was getting late and the sun was low so I decided to lower the dink and go see if they needed help. When I got there, I found a fellow and his wife with a dead OB. I asked if they needed any tools but he said no. They'd been calling his dad on the cell phone, but he was out fishing and apparently didn't have his phone on or with him. I asked them if they'd like to come aboard our boat and wait and they reluctantly said OK. I started to hook up a tow line to their boat when the fellow spotted his dad about a half mile away going back to port. I cranked up the dink and flagged him down and suggested he might want to come see if he could help his son. He did and my good deed for the day was done. I went back to the Wind Angel and had another cocktail to celebrate a job well done.
